While staying with us at Bald Hills House Bush Retreat, there are so many places you can explore. Whether it be the apple and nut farms in close by Stanley, or soaking up the years gone by in Beechworth, or maybe a nice country drive enjoying the sights of the King Valley.


Located approxiamtely 9kms from historic Beechworth, Stanley is noted for it's apple, nut, and berry farms.

The town was formerly known as Snake Gully and Nine Mile Creek. Many parts of this rural community have the remains of gold diggings from the Victorian gold rush of the mid-1800s.

Visit the Secret Stanley Gorge and lake or the Stanley Pub for lunch or dinner.

The Stanley Pub

A charming country pub nestled in picturesque Stanley, just a few minutes up the road from Bald Hills House.

The pub is open for lunch from Thursday to Sunday from 12:00pm and for dinner Wednesday to Saturday from 6.00pm.

The Stanley Pub offers a menu that is decidedly French with a contemporary twist which draws on seasonal and local produce.

Just up the road you will find Beechworth, a well-preserved historical town famous for its major growth during the gold rush days of the mid-1850s.

Beechworth's many historical buildings are well preserved and the town has re-invented itself and evolved into a popular tourist destination and growing wine-producing centre.

Attractions include: Ned Kelly themed displays at the old Court House, The Burke Museum, waterfalls, Gun Powder Magazine, Newtown Bridge (Stone Bridge), Tail Race (Mining Race), Spring Creek Water Falls, Spring Creek Gorge, Beechworth Lunatic Asylum ghost tours, lakes, historic buildings, goldfields, walks, the Beechworth Bakery, Award-winning Bridge road brewery, the Beechworth lolly shop and night tours, the award-winning restaurants and wineries.

Milawa Cheese Company

The Milawa Cheese Company is a small but highly regarded speciality cheese factory located in North East Victoria's famed wine region. All cheeses are hand made at the historic Milawa Butter Factory using traditional methods, without preservatives and using non-animal rennet.
